What is a HEPA air filter?

Was ist ein HEPA Luftfilter? Die Abkürzung HEPA steht für High Efficient Particulate Air (Filter). Übersetzt heißt das „Hocheffizienter Partikelfilter“. HEPA Kennzeichnungen werden für Schwebstofffilter vergeben, die unter anderen in Luftreinigern wie dem Homepure Zayn verwendet werden.

The HEPA classification

What is a HEPA air filter? The abbreviation HEPA stands for High Efficient Particulate Air (filter). Translated, this means “High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter”. HEPA labels are awarded to HEPA filters, which are used in air purifiers such as the Homepure Zayn. In order to receive the HEPA label, a filter grade must be achieved. In addition to the HEPA particulate air filter class, which the Homepure Z ayn fulfills, there is also the EPA (Efficiency Particulate Air Filter) and the ULPA (Ultra Low Penetration Air Filter) classification. The EPA filter class has a lower efficiency than HEPA. It is therefore more common in cheaper air filters. The ULPA filter class has very high filtration. For this reason, it has so far only been used in research laboratories or hospitals.

Areas of application for HEPA filters

HEPA filters are used where the room air needs to be cleaned of particles and pollutants that can be harmful to the human organism. Allergens such as pollen or animal hair can be captured by HEPA filters in an air filter for domestic use. Even the smallest particles such as fine dust or diesel exhaust fumes can be filtered out of the air we breathe.

Why is HEPA labeling important?

Air purifiers remove allergens, fine dust, house dust, animal hair, smoke and odors from the air we breathe. The degree of separation of pollutants is therefore important for determining effectiveness. The higher the degree of separation, the more efficient the air purification. For allergy sufferers in particular, it is important that even the smallest allergens are captured in order to reduce allergy symptoms. If a filter does not filter the allergenic particles from the air, these allergens can continue to trigger symptoms.

Air purifiers with the HEPA label filter particles between 0.1 and 0.3 micrometers in size from the air with a separation efficiency of at least 99.75%.

Overview of the EPA, HEPA and ULPA filter classes

Particle filter classes have been introduced in the EU in order to be able to classify the efficiency of the filter classes for HEPA filters precisely. The higher the number, the higher the efficiency of the respective filter.

 Filter classDegree of separation
EPOE10> 85 %
EPOE11> 95 %
EPOE12> 99,5 %
HEPAH13> 99,75 %
HEPAH14> 99,975 %
ULPAU15> 99,9975 %
ULPAU16> 99,99975 %
ULPAU17> 99,99999 %

The classification of the Homepure Zayn

With a filtration rate of 99.8%, the Homepure Zayn meets and even exceeds the classification as a HEPA filter. In addition, the Homepure Z ayn with its HPP+ filter runs more efficiently than a conventional filter. Buying a Homepure Zayn is therefore a good investment in a healthy home!
